    Building the ultimate Mountaineer

    http://www.msnsportsnet.com/ultimate_mountaineer/index.cfm

Help build the ultimate mountaineer (football)

    My thoughts:

    Brain: Oliver Luck
    Heart: Bo Orlando
    Eyes: Pat White
    Chin: Sam Huff
    Leadership: Jeff Hostetler
    Arm: Marc Bulger
    Hips: Major Harris
    Strength: Brian Jozwiak
    Calves: Jerry Porter
    Toes: Willie Drewry
    Tenacity: Chuck Howley
    Hands: David Sauders
    Thighs: Ron Wolfley
    Feet: Steve Slaton

I struggled with what the best toes or calves meant. But I know Porter could leap out of the gym and Drewry could run a fine line on kick returns. But there are too many I had to leave off. Where do you stick the Mike Comptons, Aaron Beasleys and even Todd Sauerbrun and Mike Vanderjagt. How can you leave off Jim Braxton and and Chris' fav Canute Curtis. Difficulat to say the least.

This sight might help you remember some of the greats.

Though I have a tough time arguing with Greg's picks, mine would be as follows:

    Brain: Jed Drenning
    Heart: Grant Wiley
    Eyes: Pat White
    Chin: Sam Huff
    Leadership: Pat White
    Arm: Marc Bulger
    Hips: Major Harris
    Strength: Owen Schmitt/Mark Megro
    Calves: Jerry Porter
    Toes: James Jett
    Tenacity: Mike Lorello
    Hands: Brandon Myles
    Thighs: Quency Wilson
    Feet: Steve Slaton

Although I do consider Jed a football genius, I was only considering those who at some point started. You have some real good ones in there. Wilson's thighs is definitely tough to argue. I also considered Schmidt and James Jett as well. Jet's feet couldn't make up for his hands of stone. Lorello had a great heart but Howley was all pro. And David Saunders owns every receiving record on the books. If he could run faster than a 4.8, he would have been all pro. Good picks though.

I'd like to add a category...Long term valuable player...and recommend Garret Ford (sr.). This man was a great player who made a barrier disappear and has contributed greatly to coaching, recruiting and matriculation.

Gregg: On your addition I think that you would have to add both Coach Rod and Jim Braxton in the mix for longevity contributions.

Pretty good second and third team suggestions ;-)
Rich is a "newbie" by comparison, and the late great Jim Braxton had relatively short term impact on team and campus. Danny Buggs probably fits better than those two.
