The Big East and its AQ status: With addition of new Big East Schools WVU is in AQ till 2016 at worst.

The Big East shall maintain its AQ (automatic qualifying) status with the BCS until a minimum of 2015.  The reason for this is the fact that it has already passed its evaluation for and through the 2013 season.  For it to maintain its AQ status it must:  exist as an 8 member football conference.  (The caveat to this pseudo-solid ground is what happens if WVU, Louisville, Cincinnati, Rutgers, or UConn bolt the conference in the mean time?  This is where NCAA conference rules get a bit tricky because they require that a conference has 6 teams that have played with each other for 2 consecutive years.  Alas where would that come from?  My guess and that is all it is, is that the Basketball only schools could be called upon to meet this criteria.)  Because this current contract is ironclad for the this time frame for the two year period and there is also a two-year grace period (an NCAA rule) which extends it through the 2015 season, the Big East would then only come under scrutiny under the 2014 period of evaluation.  As such, the Big East has the ability to bolster its competitive numbers to once again maintain its status as an AQ even after this most recent conference raid.  Basically, the Big East must move with speed, intelligence, and alacrity to make itself a viable competitor by 2014.  It must merely bring its numbers back up to 8 competitors by the kickoff of the 2012 season.  As WVU has bailed this conference out of those issues in the past.  It seems that the Big East needs to capitulate to WVU in terms of perks to make them stay in the Big East to once again legitimize the league.  Will the current system of Big East "leadership" see fit to do just that only a brief period of time will tell.    The point of this post is to let WVU fans know that we shall be in an AQ conference for the short term.  That period of time should be long enough to assure an admittance into a long term stable conference home for the Mountaineers in a AQ conference.  So I guess I am asking for some patience. I'm sure if mass schools exit, the BCS will do everything it can to not allow the basketball schools to account for the two year rule. I am patient, however, and I think if the guidelines stay the same, the BE can survive.
