    Expectations.

Throughout the later part of the season, it was becoming obvious that our basketball team was growing and coming together in a special way.  It didn't pan out in the NCAA tournament quite how we had planned, but it was still a very nice season given expectations and circumstances.   Next year will be a different story.   I stated a couple times throughout the year that I believed that this team would be a preseason top 15 team next year.  I might be a little off.  Several postseason polls for '09-'10 have WVU's basketball team in the top 10.  SI has WVU at #9.  As expected, Ebanks will be returning and I believe that Butler may be testing the waters, but there is little doubt that he will be returning as well.  The biggest question regarding their preseason rank next year will likely be the health situation of Joe Mazulla.

I just saw Rivals.com has us at #13. I'm certainly looking forward to see this team grow. Butler doesn't have NBA potential. He could probably play in Europe, but why leave early for Europe?

Also, I saw on Rivals we have some big QB recruit out of Texas coming in for our spring game. Early indications may be he's leaning toward WVU.

Joe Maz is definitely going to impact next season. DeSean will be back. And all preseason love for Basketball team will result in TV and recruiting help. Things are looking up on that front.

As for the QB recruit, he is looking at us Texas Tech and Michigan to name a few. He is a WVU lean because we have alum coaching at his high school, but I think he is still a bit of a long shot. He loved Pat White and has some of the same type of skills but I am not sure that is the way the "new" offense is leaning. So, I will reserve judgment. The upside to his looking our way is that it will attract attention of other recruits in our direction. Anyway, the future could be looking up.

If Butler has declared, I'm sure it's just to get instruction so that he can improve his game to have a possibility of being drafted after next year. He is being shown around the top 25 or 30 Juniors. If he expects to get drafted next year, he's going to have to pass a lot of people on that list.
