What does this weekend bode for everyone involved? We should ...You're absolutely right orangefan. We should take a poll. See how many people in the country think Syracuse is better than WVU because they won the game. The game analogy makes it so perplexing when teams that sometimes play twice a year split the victories. How can a team that won the first game and be so much obviously better for having won have any chance of losing a second match up? Surely, never has an inferior team ever upset their superior. I'll have to check the sports almanac to see if that ever occurred. (you seem to have some trouble grasping it, so I'll tell you... that was sarcasm)

I don't buy into the common opponent logic, but you are making it for me. You claim Rutgers and UConn are much better for having crushed you on the field. You claim Syracuse is better than WVU for having crushed us on the field. How would you compare us to Rutgers and UConn for having crushed them on the field? Your logic says we're better than UConn and Rutgers because we were better on the field. so your ranking would be

1. Rutgers/UConn
2. Syracuse
3. WVU
4. Rutgers/UConn.

Wait. you probably like it better like this:

1. Syracuse
2. WVU
3. Rutgers/UConn
4. Syracuse

This is YOUR logic Orangefan. I'll just look at the STANDINGS and the POLLS and the better bowl game we're headed to and know that we couldn't have played much worse football that day to lose to such a terrible opponent. So obviously Syracuse was better (much) on that day and I congratulate them in their victory. Enjoy the spoils it has brought you this holiday season as you travel for your bowl trip. oops scratch that.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3717915753338263453.post-67940643479885153322011-11-19T13:15:44.216-05:002011-11-19T13:15:44.216-05:00Weezie,

Oddly though, I don't recall the fridge box and its fans then talking trash to the microwave box, claiming that the firdge box was in fact the superior box based on the fact it went onto upend a shoebox, a clock box and a toaster box. Such a claim would defeat the purpose of the Fridge box and microwave box even fighting, wouldn't it? In other words, why bother if the head-to-head outcome if so inconsequential?

I'm trying to figure this out. . .but I think I finally have it now. You are saying that [all things considered] West Virginia is better than the team that beat them 49-23. I get it. The only question I have is: why, then, did they beat you 49-23?

Since EVERY SINGLE THING that happened that night between the lines was an utter embarrassment to WVU, I ask that you please provide MORE things outside of what played out on the field when the two teams met to determine which was better. I need as many things as possible (league standings, bowl projections, rumors, etc.) to add to the list I'm lining my shitbird cage with. You and "One G" Greg are doing a super job of keeping me supplied.

We are 1-4 in the Big East with losses to Rutgers, Louisville, South Forida and UCONN. All of those schools have at least two things in common. 1. They are better than us and demonstrated it the only place it matters - on the field, and 2. I'm not ignorant enough to talk trash to any of those teamsor their fans. What would be the point since they smacked us? Only an idiot would buy into any smack talk I sent their way after they already beat us. Such remarks would (and should) be regarded as little more than the "sour grapes" ramblings of a defeated idiot.

By your logic, since you have beaten 2/3 of the common opponents mentioned above so far - but got CRUSHED by Syracuse - you are of course better than Syracuse.

Got it. Like I said, makes perfect sense now. Words matter. Results don't. I understand your take now.

I must admit though, I wouldn't expect that from a guy who feels that posting "words" on this site is such an incredible waste of time.

OrangefanOrangefannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3717915753338263453.post-81460496436536934122011-11-19T10:53:46.890-05:002011-11-19T10:53:46.890-05:00I would like to see some footage of boxes fighting...I would like to see some footage of boxes fighting. I haven't seen that and it sounds entertaining. I know you meant boxes because what kind of person would make fun of someone's spelling and make such an elementary error in the very same post.

Hey Orangefan with one Big East win.

STANDINGS!

I'm pretty sure at the end of the season, the head to head outcome is the second thing that is looked at to determine the better team. People look at the records first. Not if some last place 1-4 team beat a 3-2 team during the middle of the season. That is, if I am correctly understanding the nature of team competition and tiebreakers in every sports league in the country. Runners can run and boxes can fight, but in sports like football, it is the end result of your season that gets you the rewards.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3717915753338263453.post-46372939399149100512011-11-19T10:48:21.214-05:002011-11-19T10:48:21.214-05:00This comment has been removed by the author.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3717915753338263453.post-40550073495887242122011-11-19T10:26:13.855-05:002011-11-19T10:26:13.855-05:00Trooper:

At least not "one G" Greg - I can't speak much on the one with two G's.

"One G" Greg obviously lacks any understanding of the honor system of competitive sports. Somewhere along the way he has been misguided and led to believe that when a team beats the hell out of you, you're still in position to talk trash on that team. What he obviously doesn't understand is that when you employ such antics, you are unwittingly checking your credibility at the door.

I would guess he's the same kind of guy who would shake your hand to consummate a friendly wager then weasel his way out of paying you if he lost said wager. Please ontinue in your obvious and desperate attempts to extend this argument out to a laundry list of things beyond the direct head-to-head results of our teams. Like records, or bowl projections, or innuendo, or anything else that shifts the focus away from what happened when West Virginia and Syracuse met on October 21st to determine which school has the better tackle football team. I'm sure its short for something. Interesting analogy with Joe Hazelwood. But Hazelwood wasn't actually navigating when the Valdez ran aground. He was sleeping off a bender below decks. That, along with a broken Sonar, was the problem. And you know what he did after the accident? It really should not be that hard, “Y” is something WVU fans have to ask
themselves all the time when trying to figure out why your teams suck so bad. Oh, and remarks
about employment (“un” or “under”) is truly funny coming from someone from West Virginia. That is what I love about this place - pure comedy. In fact, your comments about employment are like Joseph Hazelwood commenting about good ship navigating skills. The “us” that I speak of is me and da Geek. Perhaps, you have not noticed, but “we” are of a like mindset when it comes to those that like to do personal attacks and rip on the blog for being a waste of time. Don’t try to back down now, Greg, you attacked the da Geek on this blog. Remember, October 28th? Remember, saying that being “right wing” is funny? Well, its not funny at all. Da Geek has his conservative leanings, but he is honest about it. You then followed it up with a “damn liberal” comment on October 29. If I were da Geek I would have run you right then and there. Seriously, slandering da Geek for his politics is way over the line. He is a law student trying to do his best to put a humorous spin on WVU sports. You come along on the personal attack horse defaming away. Do “us” a favor, stay in the barn.

PittyCatPittyCatnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3717915753338263453.post-88628082177885032442011-11-18T18:23:10.006-05:002011-11-18T18:23:10.006-05:00This one goes out for "Greg"
I first he...This one goes out for "Greg"

I first heard about this site when the Mountaineers came to the dome last month. It became pretty famous among Cuse fans because of a prediction that was fifty-some points off. Wow, bad right? Well, unlike many of my friends I didn't bother to visit it, even when they encouraged me to do so with stories of how hilariously bad the content was. The poor spelling was legendary!

Anyway, I had no plans of wasting my time to visit here (I've been told some of the site's own folks feel the same way) until one of my buddies alerted me that WVU fans, despite getting embarrassed by the Orange, were actually on here talking smack. I didn't believe it. But now I see he wasn't kidding. Wow.

Only a foolhardy West Virginia fan could be so bold as to get his ass smacked 49-23 and THEN talk trash on the team who did the smacking. As always, you hillbillies are clueless when it comes to sports. The fabric of competition is very complex. In fairness, I realize it would be unfair of me to expect you to understand it.

Last I checked - that's why you play the game. If a 1-11 team smacks the hell out of an 11-1 team, is the 11-1 team really going to talk smack? The answer is no, UNLESS the 11-1 team doesn't understand how competitive sports work. I can't beleive I really have to explain this.

Why don't you start following competitive dance or some other outlet in which the business at hand isn't settled on the field but by subjective judges. I'm assuming you are also an anti-playoff guy who defends the BCS system at every turn. If you aren't, you've missed your calling.

If two runners wish to determine which is faster - they race. One wins, the other loses. Simple. If two boxes want to know which is better - they fight. Simple. If two idiots want to settle on which is the dumbest, they. . .I don't know how you and Wizzie settle your affairs, but you get the point. If two football teams want to know which is better - they play. The one that wins is superior (especially when they win by an alamringly wide margin). Simple again. Simple, that is, for everyone except Greg the lounge singer and his band of elusive logic.

For the sake of our discussion, I'm not concerned with finding the best team in the land. That's an argument to be had among teams who don't play one another. I'm only concerned with finding the best team on the field when Syracuse and WVU play. We have that answer. Last year, and this year. This year it came in the form of a thorough beatdown that better taste well for WVU fans - because it's likely the last time our two teams will play in our lifetime. And both sides gave us something to remember them by.

One word in sports trumps all others, Greg. Competitors and sportsmen widely understand and embrace this word, and respect it's power. You are apparently neither of the above. My friend already offered that all-powerful word and you chose to disregard it, so I'll offer it again: SCOREBOARD!

CuseTrooperCuseTroopernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3717915753338263453.post-67521603425858294082011-11-18T16:33:05.186-05:002011-11-18T16:33:05.186-05:00PittCat

Where we differ is just on Legaux's potential impact. I think he still has some growing pains to overcome. Rutgers has been very good at containing the run and that is his strength. But I agree that it shall be a low scoring affair.

We generally agree on the outcome of the UConn Ville game. That game is going to likely come down to costly mistakes. You were the one that said you would be laughing at WVU in the Beef O Brady's Bowl while you were enjoying Syracuse's BCS Bowl fun. I am just trying to figure out what BCS Bowl they will be playing in. At WVU we don't make or break our entire season based on one weeks results. We have been able to amass 7 victories thus far. Syracuse is still 2 victories shy of that mark. So, while you have "bragging rights" earned on that evening, your team has done nothing since that evening that warrants further discussion. And you still haven't made even one score prediction on here. I keep inviting you to do so but you would rather devolve the conversation into something else. I found your site through a google search for "wvu sports blogs debate." It was one of the first 3 or 4 search results listed so I figured it was a great place to find some verbal give and take, and that's what we like.

Based on the reader comments I've seen recently it was looking like we guessed right. You guys really go at it with some great verbal jabs. We love that stuff!

The reason I'm writing however is to see if you or others can address a concern I had crop up recently. I couldn't help but notice that one of your own "contributors" (Wizzie?) was complaining about what a "waste of time" it was to post on here. What's THAT all about? If that's the mindset that your own people have, then this might not be our kind of blog after all. Why in the world would he say something like that as a member of your site? Could you please clear this up for us?

Many thanks,

Lunchroom BULLyLunchroom BULLynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3717915753338263453.post-2619856515405539122011-11-18T01:33:03.505-05:002011-11-18T01:33:03.505-05:00Geek:
All you had to do was ask.
I put together...Geek:

All you had to do was ask.

I put together predictions early each week and email them to various media. One key difference between your's and mine though is that I've never been 58 points off with one of mine. I don't know many people who have.

Unlike Weezie, I don't regard posting on here as a waste of time, so here you go. And who is this Greg guy anyway? He has the comedic talents of an unemployed lounge singer. Was he seriously trying to be funny? That was awful. No matter. He's gonna have to bring it A LOT harder than that to keep pace with us, Geek! I don't think he wants caught in the crossfire. And one more thing, you better keep your homeboy "Creep" on a leash before I go old school on his ass. If he keeps it up, I will EMBARRASS him in front of all three of your readers.

Moving on.

Cincinnati at Rutgers: There is really only one question going into this game -- Can the Bearcats win without Zach Collaros? If you saw my bowl picks, then I clearly think the answer is yes. Asking backup quarterback Munchie Legaux to go on the road in his first college start and win is a tall order to be sure. But he has a terrific running back in Isaiah Pead, a solid offensive line and a good defense with him as well. I think Rutgers has a chance to take advantage of matchup problems with Mohamed Sanu against a secondary that gives up big plays. But Chas Dodd has an affinity for taking sacks, and Cincinnati has been terrific in that department. Derek Wolfe has the potential for a huge day. Home teams have not exactly dominated in Big East play this season (all three lost last week). The Bearcats might be favored, but who expects them to win? Me. Cincinnati 27, Rutgers 23.

Lousiville at UConn: The Cardinals had a big problem stopping the run against Pitt last week. Most disturbing is that the Panthers are without leading rusher Ray Graham, and have one of the shakiest offensive lines in the Big East. Now they play a team that has found its groove in the run game. Lyle McCombs has three straight 100-yard games, and Scott McCummings is coming off a career day, with 59 yards and two touchdowns against Syracuse. Neither of these teams moves the needle much when it comes to offensive fireworks. It's all going to come down to the run game -- whoever is most effective wins. UConn has not lost a Big East home game yet, but the Huskies will on Saturday. Coach Charlie Strong has stomped those video games to the ground. Louisville 21, UConn 20.

Miami at USF: USF fans have directed me to never pick the Bulls again. What if I pick them right here? The Bulls got a much needed win over Syracuse last week, and as has been the case throughout their history, they "get up" for the big nonconference games. Big East games, not so much. Miami might be down, but it would not diminish the impact of a win here any less. Both teams are fighting for their bowl lives. The big key is going to be whether or not USF continues its stellar play against the run. Lamar Miller is an explosive back who averages 5.7 yards a carry and has more than 1,000 yards this season. I really do think USF is going to win, so I am picking Miami. Hope that makes you happy, USF fans.

Miami 30, USF 28.

There ya go!!!

PittycatPittycatnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3717915753338263453.post-36058500360513760212011-11-18T01:31:21.138-05:002011-11-18T01:31:21.138-05:00Geek:
